'BASAHANG GINTO' REMAINS UNBEATABLE

By Night Owl on 12:40 AM

Basahang Ginto starring Geoff Eigenmann and Carla Abellana maintains its strong lead in the ratings according to the most recent people/individual ratings report by AGB Nielsen.

The modern remake of the Mars Ravelo graphic novel enjoyed another weeklong victory from August 16 to 20 with the following ratings: August 16 – 6.1 percent, August 16 – 6.2 percent, August 17 – 5.6 percent, August 18 – 5.9 percent and August 20 – 5.4 percent vis-à-vis its rival program.

As the Sinenovela continues this week, Orang (Carla Abellana) is ecstatic to receive an invitation from Danny (Geoff Eigenmann) unaware that the gesture is actually another scheme set up by Sylvia (Vaness del Moral). Come the day of the event, Orang arrives at the party and is shocked to find out about Danny and Sylvia’s engagement.

Danny tries to explain to Orang that he is merely following orders from Doña Marina (Celia Rodriguez) who is beholden to Sylvia’s family, and that his heart belongs only to her. Orang refuses to listen to anymore of his explanations and leaves the party devastated.

After such painful revelation, does Danny and Orang still have a chance at happiness? Could they still manage to save what is left of their relationship?

More drama unfolds as Basahang Ginto continues this week after Trudis Liit on GMA Dramarama Sa Hapon.

Seeking love the second time around in SAY I DO

By Night Owl on 10:47 PM

Beginning August 29, GMA Network brings an extraordinarily hilarious love story for everyone who wants to get a good laugh along with their families in Lovebug’s newest romantic-comedy offering, SAY I DO.

Playing the lead roles in this four-part episode are two of GMA’s brightest stars – Mark Anthony Fernandez as Alvin and Lovi Poe as Faye. This is the first onscreen project of Mark and Lovi and there has been brewing excitement among fans and viewers who have been looking forward to their team-up. Joining them in this offering are Joey Marquez as Ulyses and Carmi Martin as Chona.

Alvin is madly in love with Faye and has immediate plans to ask for her hand in marriage. They feel that they are the perfect partner for one another and decide to get hitched as soon as possible.

Despite the separation of his parents, Alvin still keeps in touch with his father and mother and invites them to the wedding. He just wants both of them to be there in the most important day in his life.

Little did he know that the plan to reunite his estranged parents would cause a big chaos on his big day. Chona arrives drunk at the wedding and causes a scene, much to Alvin’s dismay.

As the newlywed celebrates their honeymoon, Ulyses and Chona arrive to apologize for what happened. Alvin tells the two to settle whatever baggage they have once and for all. They comply with his request and in no time, Ulyses and Chona renew their love for each other.

But Alvin is against the reunion of his parents. He wants to save her mom from the heartache she went through before. He also discovers that Faye helps to reconcile Ulyses and Chona. They end up fighting and realize the differences in their personalities and family lives.

Will Ulyses and Chona continue their romance and start anew? Will this pair of love birds eventually end up at the altar? Is love truly sweeter and lovelier the second time around?

SAY I DO is directed by Jay Altarejos together with the creative team headed by Roy Iglesias as Creative Consultant, Kit Langit as Headwriter and Rona Sales and Denoy Navarro-Punio as writers. Rounding up the cast are Janelle Jamer as Cathy, Rox Montealegre as Cecil, Zeryl Lim as Joanne and Dion Ignacio as Sean.

GMA Network marks another historic landmark as it debuts a cinematic version of the Philippine national anthem, "Lupang Hinirang" just minutes ago at Party Pilipinas.

This new theatrical version retells Philippine History through a succession of carefully-crafted and awe-inspiring reenactments of historical events from Lapu-Lapu's victory over Magellan's troops in the Battle of Mactan to the Filipinos' peaceful revolt in pursuit of democracy in the 1986 People Power Revolution at EDSA.

The new version, which was conceived from the strengthened corporate partnership between GMA Network and SM Cinemas, advances the narration of Philippine history from the standard versions released before.

This project was done in close coordination with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, who recognized the Network's efforts to instill nationalism and patriotism among the Filipino people.

Shot wholly in high-definition (HD) digital video technology, the national anthem is slated to roll on the big screens of SM across the country. It will also be a part of GMA's sign-on and sign-off messages marking the beginning and end of each day's broadcast.
